I don't know why Walgreens sent me my February refund as a gift card instead of cash when I didn't ask them to. I mean, I'm not exactly going to choose an extra 29 cents worth of Walgreens merchandise over $2.99 that I can put in my pocket. In any case, I figured I'd apply that three buck gift card to my purchase this afternoon, all items on which I had coupons as well as full-price rebates coming back.
The total came to about fourteen bucks, which I charged to my Discover card, then realized I still had the Walgreens gift card in my hand and had forgotten to use it. The cashier very kindly credited everything back to me, then rang it up again including the gift card, so it came to about eleven bucks. I presented my Discover card again. And now it was being declined.
Now, this was actually less than the charge which Discover had accepted scant seconds earlier, and which presumably had been credited back to me, yet now it was being declined. Go figure.
But I hate this stuff. I'm saving a copy of my rebate form before I mail it in, too, and if Walgreens sends me a gift card instead of cash again I'll be on the phone in a heartbeat.
