Take The Skinheads Bowling

I read in the news today that Clarence Bumpas died. The saxophone player for the Doobie Brothers, who I had just seen performing with Steely Dan in September, died of a heart attack while flying to his next concert venue. Steely Dan's webpage went black in his honor.

I was reminded of Harry "Sweets" Edison, who I discovered after Roger Sims had passed me a cassette of his music, and how I missed seeing him at the Riviera one time when we were in Vegas for Comdex, and how a month later he was dead.

So mindful of all this, I was not about to pass up a chance to see Camper Van Beethoven, performing a set at Independent Records en route to a double bill (as it were) with Cracker later in the evening. A couple of dozen stalwart admirers gathered to hear CVB demonstrate that every band worthy of the name should include an accordion player and a violinist in the mix.
