Driving On Thin Ice

8th Street in the afternoon
While the main streets are fairly clear, this only has the effect of making you forget to exercise caution on some of the side roads, and the driveways of my apartment complex, which are still well coated with ice. I found myself skidding out the exit of my apartments into the street instead of braking to a nice easy halt. I will find my car swerving from one side to the other after I manage to gain enough traction to lurch forward from my last stopping point. And at the Walmart parking lot, someone parking facing me had stopped his car with his front license plate only millimeters away from touching mine, I determined after an extremely close inspection to make sure he had not in fact collided with and damaged my spanking new front fender.

Yesterday was that bitter kind of cold that stings your ears and burns your tongue when you breathe it in. Last night I overheard someone say it was fifteen below outside. This morning, the radio said six. I saw someone standing at the bus stop holding their gloves over their face and wanted to stop and give them a scarf.
