Monday morning, we had a little bit of snow, but by afternoon it was gone, and the rest of the week was gorgeous for my parents' visit. The Monday morning before that, I opened my door to head down to the car and drive to work, and found myself face-to-face with the worst blizzard I'd ever seen. The roads were so icy that an eighteen-wheeler and a handicapped bus were both stranded on a small hill on Nevada Avenue, and a police officer got out of his car and pushed a pickup truck which was otherwise unable to proceed. With my Lancer's front-wheel drive, I was barely able to gain enough traction to surmount the hill, then had a clear road free of any other traffic all the way to downtown. Spooky. As I crossed the street from my parking spot to my office the wind was almost strong enough to knock me down.
Yet by afternoon the sun was shining and the storm had passed. The streets were still icy and dangerous, but otherwise it was a beautiful day.
And that's Colorado Springs weather in a nutshell. When we were still moving the company up here, one recent transplantee said he was moving the lawn with his shirt off and in five minutes it had started snowing.
If you don't like it, just wait a minute.
