In Like A Lion

Yesterday morning, people had trouble getting in to the office over the snow-covered, traffic-clogged streets. By noon, when I had to run to the house to retrieve my cel phone, it was bright and sunny and the streets were clear. When I left work again at the end of the day, snow was starting to fall again, and it kept falling all night.

This morning, when I went shopping, it was bright and sunny again, snow sloughing off the windshields of our cars...and yet, you could see what looked like a nasty storm rolling in over the mountains. Sure enough, by mid-afternoon you saw the first few flakes falling, and it didn't take more than a few minutes before blowing snow and heavy fog blanketed the streets with a total white-out.

Speaking of stopping by the house yesterday, I had a little trouble with my key in the lock, and when I finally managed to extricate it, I could see the edges of the keyhole looked kind of sharp and twisted, like maybe someone had tried to jimmy it open. For that matter, I noticed my neighbor's window screen was pried open, but as she told me, "I think it was like that when I moved in." Anyway, I now have a shiny new lock that and my key swings it open like butter. I hate to be paranoid about the likelihood of break-ins, but the officer did warn me that might happen after I was burglarized and then mugged within the space of a month last year.

As I told folks, "I had a little trouble with my key, and for all I know someone else had a little trouble with the lock."
