| Welcome to Richard's Place My name is Dr. Richard Letkeman. I am a graduate physician presently residing in Alberta, Canada. I am completing my residency in rural family medicine. Canada is one of the best places in the world to live, if you don't mind the winters. Canada has an excellent healthcare system that covers it's citizens from cradle to grave. The primary weakness with the system is that it is comprehensive, all things to everyone. I like to call that growth pains in developing sustainability. |

| The medicine in Canada is world class. Canada is also a leader in medical research. The healthcare is excellent and relatively inexpensive for our nation. The healthcare system is public. This is the law which is evolving. The federal government determines the basic standards, and the provinces collect the taxes and deliver the healthcare. Hospital and clinic costs are covered by the tax base. Medications are covered while in hospital only. Seniors and the poor have their medications subsidized. Necessary diagnostic imagining and laboratory testing is also covered. |
