Colombia is a wonderful country. It is a country of many climactic regions, with three major mountain ranges to the west and tropical rain forest in the lowlands to the east.

Medellín, is located in the northern region in the province of Antioquia. It is situated in a mountain valley at about 1,000 meter elevation. The elevation helps to regulate the temperatures so that it is truly a tropical paradise. The daytime temperature is generally about 28°C with nightly lows of about 17 to 21°C.

The metropolitan area has a population of about 3,500,000 people. Transportation is excellent with an overhead fast light-train system, buses and taxis.

There are many unversities and they have a limited public healthcare system.

The architecture ranges from a rich tapestry of Spanish Colonial designs to the modern. The streets are generally narrower than those in North America, but commerce and traffic moves easily.

The shopping is endless and there are street venders everywhere.

There is art everywhere. Fernando Botero scuptures can be found throughout the city.

Colombian's have a love of life that also includes paintings, music and dance. It is a country that defines life.

Family values are very different from those of North America. You will find 2 and 3 generations living in a single dwelling. As a result, daycares and senior's homes are not common. We in the "First World" have much to relearn.

Driving around the countryside one is overwhelmed by the visual landscape.

Imagine taking a short drive and arriving at a 200 year old suspension bridge or a waterfall that flows like the veil of an angel!

Most of the houses have the traditional balconies. These were often where a young man would come to court his love.
There are dozens of Universities, Pictured above is the UNIVERIDAD DE ANTIOQUIA which just celebrated it's bicentenial.

Colombia is strongly Catholic. They have many official days of celebration and formal holidays.

These photographs were taken during the holy week of Easter. The streets were full everyday with people demonstrating their devotion to their faith.

During "Procession", life sized replications of the saints are carried on the shoulders of men. It is an amazing sight.
