RENAULT 4

FASTBACK

This bodystyle was contributed by Fabian Rocha of Autos Uruguayos, which is linked below. Called the Renault Mini 4, it was developed by a producer, Santa Rosa, from Renault 4 parts sent from Argentina. In fact, mechanically it was identical to the regular Renault 4. Originally its concept was similar to the Citroen Méhari. However, due to the fact that this was impractical for regular use, it was revised into the small saloon shown here.

In profile, it appeared to be a hatchback. This is because of the huge C-pillar, which continued to the end of the boot for no apparent reason. Its obvious Renault 16 overtones appear somewhat incongruous next to the standard car from the B-pillar forward. This is the only true sedan/saloon Renault 4 to have been produced. The production was set up at the premises at Casavalle Street near Garzón from the sixties to the beginning of the seventies. Click the advertisement to enlarge.
