Double exposure
last year Richard went to churches in Couva and Tortuga, Trinidad, West Indies. The Mosques in Chaguanas and the Catholic churches, Lodges, and the Red House in Port-of-Spain.
He had been given an old ranger camera and he was testing it out. The mechanism on the side of the camera was a bit stiff and he was unclear about the outcome of the shots that he took. When he finally got the negatives developed he was surprised to see that all of them had been double exposed.
But what was even more striking was the fact that Catholic church melded with Mosque in a ghostly impression. No two monuments sat with another of the same type but juxtaposed themselves with images of the opposite type producing a haunting pastiche of elements that are at once mesmerising and timeless.
