(1992 to the present)

Training  Yanomami, Yekuana, and Piaroa communities  of the Venezuelan Amazon in the fabrication of hand-made paper  from rain forest fibers and recycled materials; documenting oral histories and traditions in native languages and fostering self-expression through integrating these documents into the bookmaking process for use in community schools, in  cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Inparques, and  The Vicariato Apostlico de Venezuela.

In 2000 the first book produced by this project received the award of Best Book of the Year from the Centro Nacional del Libro of Venezuela. This book is now part of collections both private and public, including Princeton University, Cotsen Library Collection, USA and Parsons School of Design, Gimbel Library, New York and  the New York Public Library, Spencer Collection, New York. In 2002 it received the Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Grant for the project Yanomami Ow Mamotima
Relationship with Moko Jumbies:

I met Dragon de Souza and his Keylemanjahro School - Moko Jumbie project during month of preparation for Carnival 2002. I worked for him as a volunteer making moko jumbie costumes for the children and handlers. Because of my background in the arts and my commitment to community projects he encouraged me to photograph and film continuously and to share with him, as an artist, my ideas about his project.

It was as at this time that we began to talk about the possibilities for his school and the many directions in which this project can grow. We formed a trusting friendship and we decided to work together and do what we can to bring the project to another level.

Having designed for him the last 2 Mas and currently working for 2005 Carnival.  This coming year Mas will be an African theme: "Osebo's Drum, a West African Tale" and Keylemanjahro will bring out . I will return to Trinidad mid April to continue my work with the Papermaking project in Grande Riviere and the
Dragon Keylemanjahro School - Moko Jumbie project.
