richardandtracy's Pulley Block Design.


This article is in response to a question I had about making pulley blocks. I make mine to the drawing below. The unusually large sheave diameter is kinder on the ropes than many commercial designs and is more in line with the requirements of British Standards and Royal Navy Standards.




Materials.
Generally I use whatever I have to hand, which means steel for the cheek plates and bolts, and aluminium or timber for the pulley wheel. The pivot sleeve is usually brass.
