A son of Jens would therefore have their given name and the last name would be Jensen or in America it would probably be spelled Jenson. At times the spelling sen would still be used in America. Daughters in Norway also took the first name of their fathers. A daughter of Jens would use her given name and the last name would be Jensdaughter. In Norway the spelling would most likely be Jensdatter. In the early 1900s the goverment required that children use the last name of the father.
