My Homemade XM Radio Boom Box
I used my Sony PnP and hooked it up to an 80 watt car amp and a pair of 4 way, 6x9 Sony speakers.
This boombox could also work with a Delphi SKYFi or a personal CD player.

The Sony output is to a headphone amplifier, an inline volume control, and then connected to the power amplifier.
Wire holes drilled at the seam, make slots and allow the lid to open.
The on/off toggle switch cuts the power from the 12V  battery.  The amp needs to be less than 9 1/2" wide and 8" tall. The Sony power plug is attached to a socket that is connected to the amp power terminals.
I made a jumper to connect the switch post, to the + post.  Zoom in to see.
I used a 12 Volt PowerWheel battery to power the car amp.
I attached a Radio Shack universal bracket  to the amp mounting bolt and used a Coleman strap to secure the battery.
I added Poly Fill to the inside.
The Sony PnP, headphone amp and metal plates are attached with Velco tape.  The 4" steel mending plates allow for easy mounting and removal of the antenna.
The Sony tuner & antenna fit in the tool tray.
BoomBox with SKYFi tuner.  I used the home kit & Velcro tape.  I used the power plug from a SKYFi car kit.  It changes the 12 VDC to 6VDC.  Same as the Sony.
If you build a boom box it is at your own risk.  Don't set down on wet grass, it could short out.
I bought the tool box at Lowes.  This one is perfect for this project.  It is made out of structural foam and is easy to drill and cut with a jig saw.  Here's the link: Click for Tool Box Link
BoomBox with Stock Sony (Test Wiring)
This version of the boom box will work with your stock XM Sony system.

I bought  a 12 VDC Battery Terminal Adaptor Outlet from Radio Shack to  plug the XM power cord into it.  I cut the clamps off the RS outlet cord and attached them to the proper terminals on the amp with crimp fittings.

You won't believe how good the Boom Box sounds.
