Gaultheria procumbens

Family: Heath (Ericaceae)

Note the thick, shiny, oval leaves (1-2 inches); evergreen, slightly toothed, fragrant. Stem creeping, with short erect branches (2-5 inches). The small, waxy, egg-shaped flowers dangle beneath the leaves. Fruit a fragrant, dry red berry.

Found: Woods and clearings.

Blooms: July-August
