Cardinal Flower ("White")
Lobelia cardinalis

Family: Bluebell (Campanulaceae)

America's favorite. A slender spike of "intense scarlet" flowers.

Note: I photographed this rare "white" Cardinal Flower on an island in the middle of the Hudson River. In the many years of photographing wildflowers, I have never seen this rarity before or haven't since.

Height: 2-4 feet

Found: Wet places, streambanks and swamps.

Blooms: July-September
