Family: Primrose (Primulaceae)

The small (1/4 inch) starlike flowers, borne singly on long nodding stalks in the leaf axils, close in dull weather. Usually scarlet but may also be white or blue. Leaves ovate, stalkless, in pairs ro whorls.

Height: 4 to 12 inches

Found: Sandy soil, roadsides

Blooms: June to August
