Alpine plant with purple, open bell-shaped, deeply 5 lobed flowers, 1/2 to 3/4 in. wide. Leaves are elliptical or oval, 1/2 to 3/4 in. long, and densely covered with brownish scales, especially beneath. Low forming mats.
