Cichorium intybus

Family: Composite

Clear-blue stalkless flowers (1 1/2 in.) hug the rigid, nearly naked stem. Rays blue (often white, rarely pink), square-tipped, and fringed; closed by noon. Basal leaves dandelionlike, partly clasping, toothed, lobed or entire.

Height: 1 to 4 feet

Found: roadsides, fields and waste places. Widespread.

Blooms: June to October
