White Bracted Sedge
Dichromena latifolia
Family: Sedge
Description: From the savannah and marsh regions of coastal Virginia through Florida comes this truly bizarre member of the sedge family. The slowly spreading clumps (3' in two years) of green foliage blends with the other green reed-like sedges until summer, when the 15" stalks are topped with spectacular white bracts (modified leaves) that surround the tiny flowers.
Found: Wet ditches, pond margins and wet pinelands in Florida, on to Texas and Virginia.
