Family: Pickerelweed (Pontederiaceae)

Description: Floating, aquatic, herbaceous perennial with spongy, inflated petioles topped by a nearly round leaf blade. Showy flowers are on erect, succlent stems and are light lavender in color with 6 petals. The upper petal is purplish with a yellow center.

Found: Fresh water habitats throughout Florida. Native to Brazil.

Blooms: Sporadically all year.
