Family: Gentian (Gentianaceae)



Description: Rose Pink is also known as Marsh Pink and Bitterbloom. This is a herbaceous plant, it is a biennial which can reach 31 inches in height. The upper stem is square in cross-section (angled). The leaf arrangement is opposite. Leaves can reach 1 1/2 inches in length. Each leaf is entire, ovate, clasping to perfoliate. The flowers have 5 regular parts and are up to 1 1/2 inches wide. They are pink with red edged yellow center sometimes (rarely) white (albiflora).

Found: Rocky open woods, glades, thickets, fields, prairies, roadsides.

Blooms: June - September.
