Heliotropium polyphyllum
Family: Borage (Boraginaceae)
Description: Perennial herb. Stems hairy, up to 30 inches tall. Leaves alternate, numerous, sessile or nearly so. Blades narrow, lower surfaces densely pubescent. Margins enire. Flowers in curved, usually paired, spikes. Calyx 5-lobed. Corolla 5-lobed, yellow or white. Stamens 5. Fruit a schizocarp, producing 4 mericarps.

Found: Pinelands, brackish shoes, prairies, pond margins, and ruderal.
Note: In spite of having very small flowers, this is one of Florida's most gloriously beautiful wildflowers, for a single plant may bear hundreds, or even thousands, of snowy white or brilliant yellow flowers at one time. The innumerable flowers attract a variety of nectar-seeking insects, including butterflies.
