LMS JAZZ BAND INFO
History: The Lincoln Middle School Jazz band was formed in February of 2007 with 34 auditioned members.  We have grown each year and in 2008-09 there were a total of 140 auditions and we ended up with 45 members. The band is made up of a good mix of 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  Jazz band includes flutes, clarinets, saxes, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section complete with guitar, bass guitar, piano, drum set and auxiliary percussion.   The musicians stay after school one day each week to practice.  For the past three years, the Jazz Band has performed for the judges at the Great East Festival in Massachusetts and won two gold medals and one silver medal for all their hard work!
This Year: Auditions for Jazz band will be held in October during the school day with makeups after school.  All students who know how to play any of the instruments listed above are invited to audition.   Last year's jazz band members will need to re-audition this year.  There will be approximately 45 spots open again this year.  Audition music will be passed out at school.
Students who are selected for the jazz band will be required to buy a jazz method book and meet after school once a week for rehearsal.  Practice and good behavior in regular band class  and in Jazz band is essential to remaining in the group.
Good luck to all who audition!
