I very recently got into metal detecting in October '2006. I started out with a really cheap Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100 that I got off of Ebay for $50. I found a few silver coins with it until I upgraded to a Garrett ACE 250. I found quite a bit more with that machine..I recently upgraded to a Minelab Explorer XS (Aug '07) and will be learning it from this point on. Metal detecting for those who have it in them, is one addictive hobby. Seems like once you start, you never want to stop. The excitement compared to fishing is ten fold, and I do both. If you're interested in getting into metal detecting, don't be discouraged by the price of detectors or the learning curve. There are many $100-$200 detectors out there that will get you started and learning to use them is a matter of desire to learn. Today's modern detectors are easier to use and almost have that "Plug & Play" tag attached to them. They have features that make the learning process alot easier. The TNet forum is a great place for anyone interested in metal detecting or treasure hunting in general. My screen name there is Ricardo_NY1. |
