WHRC In Nova Scotia

by Ric Hamilton

The Windsor & Hantsport Railway Company (WHRC) came from the sale of CP's DAR to Iron Roads in 1994 and the main revenue generation is hauling gypsum to the tidewater where it can be loaded into vessels.  As of June 2006 only one MLW RS23 remains on the property with motive power being supplied by CEMR GP9s on lease.   I will ask, as I did on the other pages, that you do not tresspass.  WHRC is a private company and as such would like to protect you from injury on their property so please respect the no trespassing signs.

Although there is a RTC call in channel, I believe clearances are given by cell phones.

Mileages
The track loosely follows highway 101 from Lower Sackville to New Minas and in Windsor it is not hard to find as it is right beside the highway.  Track speeds are relatively low so a multitude of good shots can be had in a variety of spots. The gypsum hauling starts on the Truro spur and goes to Hantsport for transloading into ships.  The WHRC also goes to Windsor Junction to pickup interchange traffic, usually covered hoppers and vegetable oil, and delivers them to Port Williams and New Minas.  There seems to be no set schedule that I can ascertain other than mainly Monday to Friday. If you come through Windsor and the gypsum hoppers are blocking the track and there are no locomotives working, there is no work being done.
