Sam's Baby Dies
Reported in SOW November 16th Issue
Sam is rushed int surgery this week on General Hospital, which gives Alexis another chance to beg for the stem cells she needs to save her daughter Kristinas life.
"Alexis pleaded, Sam said no, and then Alexis lost i, saying, 'I want you to see her dying! I want you to see that you could have saved here and you didn't! Are you heartless?" She screamed at her, and then Sam cramped and fainted," sets up Nancy Lee Grahn, who plays that frantic Alexis.
Then Sam loosed the baby, which is not Alexis' fault. "She had a preexisting condistion and she would have lost the baby anyway," explains Grahn. "Screaming at a pregnant woman doesn't usually cause a misscarriage! All the characters in the situation are justified. Ad a mother, there is nothing I wouldn't do for my child."
This includes going to Sonny and begging that he save his newfound daughter with his stillborn one.
"Time is running out," stresses Grahn. "In the middle of his grief, she has to ask for the stem cells, which is just hideous. But there isn't another choice. She needs him to sigh those papers."
Sonny gives his premission, and Alexis then allows him to see Kristina. "She's enormously grateful," says Grahn. "enormously."
While all that is going on, Sam takes a turn for the worst after surgery. When she regains consciousness, Jason has to break the news to her that she lost her baby.
"In his heart, Jason feels like he's the father of this baby," offers Maurice Benard, who plays the real father, Sonny. "So he's acting like his own baby died, even though he understands that Sonny is the father. It's a weird pain he's in."
"We had a scene where he comes to me and says, "The hospital needs to know were you want to put the body," shudders Benard. "I told [GH hon-chos], 'Just block it. 'You don't want to rehearse a scene like that. That was though."
By the end of the week, Sam will learn that Sonny authorized that taking of her baby's stem cells, which she had vetoed-and she won't be pleased. "She goes off on him." previews Benard, "and she has every right to."
