The Northridge Earthquake was a good thing for several reasons. It proved that many buildings were structurally incapable of withstanding such force, and as a result most buildings were redesigned or reinforced. The release of the pressure at so early an hour on a holiday saved countless lives (had it occured two hours later, many more people would have been killed). It brought neighbors and communities together (people who had lived in the same neighborhood for years and had never met before are now friends). People began working together to rescue people from rubble or gather rations and supplies for those who needed them. Also, for many people, the earthquake caused emotional breakdowns; people who were in need of professional help but never sought it, now go to doctors. All the emotions they had been building up were now released like the pressure of the earth.
