for Jake
'So close, no matter how far...'

I didn't think souls could stretch this far
But here we are
Each reaching with all that we are
Just to touch the other's hand
And Distance tries to push us apart
And we laugh at it and reach farther
And it weilds its ugly iron blade
But even that can't pierce our bond
One day it pours rain
One day's sunlight chilled by the wind
And I wrap my blanket tighter around me
Sometimes it gets a lucky shot in
And I falter, happy and sad all at once
And then I look to you for strength
And the wound is gone as if it never was
Night ascends, a million stars shine on us
So bright in the clear, comforting darkness
I close my eyes, bound tighter in my blanket
And I wish and imagine that I'm in your arms
And any lingering pain slips away into the shadows
And I look up into the night
And pray to see the days fly faster
And Distance die by our hands
