Leaps and bounds
And the hawk is in the air
Circling above the grassy hillside
Hunting
Prey does not easily escape
His sharp talons
His agile flight
Soon now...he could almost taste his victory
And far below
The cat watches
Some small rodent
Or a snake
Either would fill him
But to choose
This was a problem, to choose a meal
From the hillside's entire selection
And she sits
Perfectly still at the base of the hill
Watching...
Perhaps to make a game of it
'Let it see me, let it try to run
Once I have it
It cannot escape'
And the cat watches
In silent meditation
She watches
Her graceful friend
The well-meaning hawk
He is swooping and twirling
Playing with the wind (and his food)
She watches
And all she can do is smile
Her dearest friend
She would join him in the sky
They would ride the wind together
A noise
She looks away (a second)
Nothing, just a cricket
She quickly returns her gaze to the sky
And he is gone
She sighs
'It seems that every time I catch sight of you
My friend
You always disappear from view'
And she is off to find him again
And he watches
