A Special Message from the AAFCS VP of Services

I would like to make you aware of a very exciting training opportunity I have been able to arrange with Street Law, a non-profit ageny which provides practical, participatory education about law, democracy and human rights.  Through a grant with the Department of Justice, they are able to afford family and consumer scienes professionals a training related to Teen Parents and the Law on Sunday June 25th, (from about 1 PM til the early evening) immediately following our annual conference in Charlotte and on Monday June 26th (from the AM til a bout 4PM).  Please note, this information is useful to anyone teaching high school or college courses or conducting training or workshops in parenting, child development, family relations. It is not limited to teachers of, or presenters to, teen parents.

The training is excellent and highly endorsed by several members who have gone through the training and used the materials.  In fact, 15 family and consumer professionals recently went throught the training in Prince George's County, MD!!

The cost is ONLY $50 and includes the comprehensive curriculum and some meals.  It is limited to the first 30 applicants.  Please let me know if you plan to attend, if you will need a sleeping room, and who you will arrange to room with.  My E mail is:
[email protected]

Registration to the Charlotte Training is due by March 15, 2006.  Contact Shannon Tobin or contact her at 301.589.1130 ext.231 to register.

The training will be conducted at the La Quinta Colesium in Charlotte.  A block of 15 sleeping rooms has been reserved for Sunday (you will need to let me know if you also need Monday evening) at a rate of $69 a night with the assumption that some of you may not need rooms and some will be willing to share them.  I will need to provide the hotel with your names in order for you to make the reservation for this room block.

Sunday dinner and Monday lunch will be provided along with snacks.  The LaQuinta provides a continental breakfast and shuttle to the Charlotte airport.

You will need to "cabpool" from the Hilton on Sunday at the conclusion of the AAFCS Conference to get to the LaQuinta, Colesium.

More specific details will be provided as they become available.
