Warren, Rhode Island Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year Committee Chairs Subject: Request for TOY Nominees Date: December 15, 2006 Teacher Recognition Search Rhode Island Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Nominations Due March 16, 2007 We are looking for an outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. Please help us identify a teacher whose instructional units and/or program influences the lives of students, their families and/or the community within and beyond the context of the school setting. Members of the Rhode Island Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (RIAFCS) may nominate other members or themselves. We encourage and welcome nominations from principals, department chairs, supervisors, superintendents, and other school staff. Candidates for the award must be full time, permanent K-12 teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences. In addition, the candidate must be a current member of AAFCS, and have maintained membership for at least the past three years. The purpose of this award is to recognize and promote outstanding methods, techniques, and activities teachers contribute to educational programs that give visibility to family and consumer science programs. The Rhode Island teacher or teachers selected for state recognition will be announced at the RIAFCS program meeting in April. Exemplary teachers and their contributions will be promoted by RIAFCS, and their practices will be encouraged for replication in classrooms throughout the state. The teacher who has developed an outstanding, exemplary, and innovative program will be encouraged to prepare for national recognition in the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) National Teacher of the Year (TOY) competition in December 2007.
