FCS Certification

Information can be found at the RIDE website:
www.ridoe.net.
Or Google RI teacher certification
Or try this link directly:
www.ridoe.net/Certification_PD/Default.htm

Once on the website click on
"Educators Quality and Certification"

Once you get to that page click on the right hand bulleted column under
"Certification Application Procedures"

Under the heading other information you need to click on
" Requirements for Certification"

This will bring you a list of teaching areas.  Scroll down  look for "
Special Subject" and click on this. Sorry to say it is still listed under the heading of "Home Economics"

When you click on this it will open a PDI file which lists the content courses you need. You need a total of 36 credits. It may be possible to apply years of preschool experience for credit.

HOME ECONOMICS
Within the 36 credits for Home Economics, the candidate must have courses to include work in each of the following content areas: Family Interaction, Clothing and Textiles, Consumer Economics, Foods and Nutrition, Home Management, and Community Relations.

Once the course work has been completed, go back to the website and download an application. It can be found under the heading
"Applications for Certifications" There the form can be found to have transcripts reviewed.

Note: It maybe worth the money to apply and have current transcripts reviewed to see if any of the courses  already taken would apply. A letter can also be sent to ask about getting credit for  years of preschool experience. They may count it for Family Interaction courses. They neglected to specify "early childhood or child development. Family interaction is where they lump these courses.
