TRY FCCLA

Many of you have heard speeches about FCCLA from fellow teachers and from students.  With busy class loads and busy schedules at work and home, I know that taking on one more thing can be daunting if not overwhelming.  However, I hope that you will consider getting your feet wet and doing something with FCCLA in your classroom over the next few months.

FCCLA Easy Does It!!   The easiest, simplest way to start out in FCCLA is with in-class projects and activities.

YOU DONT NEED TO DO EVERYTHING THERE IS TO DO IN FCCLA!    START SMALL WITH AN IN-CLASS PROJECT!

IN-CLASS PROJECTS
These are activities or projects that stem from and enhance Family and Consumer Science programs of study.  Actual experiences occur during class, although assignments and small group projects may occur outside of class (homework).  You dont have to do it after school, just plan some time during class.

Plus for Teachers:
? Students are involved in FCS related projects that they conceive, plan, implement and evaluate.
? Students engage in experiential learning practical application of learning that develops leadership: personal responsibility, teamwork, cooperation, decision-making, planning and evaluation.
Plus for Students: Extra benefit: for those students who dont normally get involved because they cant participate after-school or other times.   It gives them a chance to get involved in school projects.

FCCLA Benefits for Teachers:
? Demonstrate commitment to profession and student learning.
? Teacher/adviser facilitates student involvement: guide, share, participate and let young people assume the major role in planning and implementing projects.
? Enriches classroom learning
? Addresses national standards for FCS.
? Demonstrate to school and community importance and relevance of FCS,
? Builds support for FCS.
? Addresses scheduling and workload challenges for both teachers and students caused by after-school programs.
? Provides a connection to community resources and gain recognition for FCS.
