| RECYCLING: We will now be recycling each Wednesday after our meetings. We SAVE about a forest each week, I believe. Students do all the collecting, and take turns taking paper to Waste Recycling. SAVE Club bought blue recycle bins for all the rooms at CHSE this year. CAMPING TRIP: The SPRING CAMPING TRIP which was scheduled for Friday, March 16, 2001 at Deer Lick Creek has been POSTPONED. Come to the meetings each Wednesday in Ms. Evans' room--#235--to get details. We went to Lake Lurleen Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 and survived the cold! It was actually great fun, and nobody was kidnapped by the Blair Witch. ;-) OFFICERS: Connie Leeper--President; Clayton Zook--Secretary/Treasurer. AEC (Alabama Environmental Council): Meetings are Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. at Carmichael Hall on the U of A campus. See Ms. Evans for details. Other News and Information: A big Clean Air and Clean Energy Rally was held in Atlanta on October 28. There were several bands playing outside for the rally, and many booths, speakers, and demonstrations. There were high school and college students from around the southeast, as well as local community activists. The U of A New College students took their SOLAR CARS to exhibit! It was quite impressive. The entire 30,000 WATT STAGE SOUND SYSTEM WAS SOLAR POWERED!!!! Click here to check out SunDancePower.com |

| EARTH DAY: Earth Fest was Saturday, April 28, 2001. Many SAVE Club members attended and even helped the Alabama Environmental Council pass out pamphlets and recycle. For Earth Week SAVE Club members decorated the sidewalks with colorful chalk drawings and Earth Friendly messages. We also had "Earth Trivia" questions on the announcements each morning. Winners of the Earth Trivia Questions received free tickets to Earth Fest. We also sold SAVE CLUB T-SHIRTS again during the first part of April. |
