THE NIGHT
I lived in darkness
all I knew was night
when a friend appeared
with a smile he led me to a light.
The light was fresh
my soul rejoiced
Yet my heart did break
for in it dwelt the darkness still.
And in the light
a shadow fell
and darkened all the earth.
The light was gone
and I faltered in the blackness
blinded by my heart's joy
I fell and lay where I was
to wait there once more. . .
What?
A cry?
A cry I heard in my dark?
Someone's in my dark?
A call rang out.
A cry for help.
I rose and ran
to find the one
who was lost within the dark.
I found her sitting
in her chair wishing she were dead.
And in the dark my heart did break
and go out to her
I took her hand
led the way
to give the light to her
We found the light
her eyes grew bright
I felt her darkness leave
She thanked me once then went her way
to start her life again.
I love her now
I loved her then,
but she is the light
and in my heart
the darkness still weeps.
I love the night
and the darkness it brings.
For in dark I see lights.
The lights of those I helped
and led them to their ways.
Yet, still at night.
I see her light
follow it day by day.
For she is my light
in this cold dark night.
The one who helped me
to find my way.
