DESIGNER CORY LOVICK'S STAY AT A HOTEL IN HAWAII PROVIDED INSPIRATION FOR THE CABINETRY IN THE BATH.
As for the interior, Lovick's aim was to make her client's personal space just that-personal. Vanessa wanted not only a cozy, clean feel, but also several amenities: a fireplace, lots of closet space, a sitting area, and the large-scale bed she had purchased for a former home.
Lovick was able to pull off these wishes while also introducing a few handcrafted touches-including Guatemalan bedside tables and interesting old pots on a bookshelf-to add variety to the monochromatic, uncluttered decor. "This space is very much like a hotel room, where nearly everything in it is functional," says Lovick, who carried this theme into the master bathroom.
In the bath, teak cabinetry was inspired by a style the decorator had admired during a stay at the Four Seasons Hotel on Hawaii's Big Island. A skylight draws light into the open stone shower, making it the perfect place for two: Vanessa's poodle, Oatmeal, has a separate hand held shower nozzle.
Vanessa regularly retreats to her penthouse suite to enjoy the soothing environment and to soak up the spec- tacular view. When ensconced there, she can pretend to be anywhere in the world, including her favorite exotic islands. "It's all about the beach," Vanessa says of her Southern California domain. In this case, the island feel exists on her home turf, no passport required.
