Lady Rams Winning
Vicki Nelson

The Richland Girls Soccer team played three games this week, each of them with the Rams traveling to visit their opponents. The Rams went 2-1 against Chestnut Ridge, Bishop McCort, and Forest Hills, leaving them with a cumulative record of 3-2.
Richland traveled to Chestnut Ridge on Monday to face the Lions. Although the Rams failed to achieve the same high level of play they came out with against Westmont last week they still managed to pull out a victory. While the visiting Rams dominated play with 26 shots to the Lions 5, they had difficulty sliding the ball in to the net. Junior Holly Kline on her way to a shutout saved each of the shots by Chestnut Ridge. The goals came throughout the game by juniors Danette Reiking and Stepanie Doering. Doering tallied the first goal on a shot by Jen Hill early in the game. Reiking's goal came much later on a cross from Doering. At the end of the week Reiking is the team's leading scorer with 4 goals in these first 5 games.
On the following afternoon the Lady Rams arrived at Roxbury Park. Much to the girls dismay the Crushers were ready and waiting to do just that, crush them. Only seconds into the match Bishop McCort drives the ball down the field, past 10 Richland players, and scores on junior keeper Jen Horner. The game seemed to continue in this manner for the rest of the game. The Rams, still not looking like the team from the previous week, played with apathy. The Crushers dominated play and scored 4 goals before the end of the game. Richland had one lone goal from Reiking in the second half. The game ended with the cowed Rams defeated 4-1.
After a day to regroup Richland again loaded onto a bus and traveled to visit the Rangers of Forest Hills. The Rams came out dominating and again had trouble finishing the drives. At halftime the competition was still tied, 0-0. Kline had little action in the goal, and the Richland offense wasn't capitalizing on the time they had. Coming out at halftime the girls seemed to have a new spirit. Richland fought hard for a much needed victory to restore the Ram Pride. The first goal came most of the way into the second half as freshman striker Janelle Layton drove the ball up the center of the field and slid in just under the Ranger goaltender. Not long after this Doering came powering up the field and scored shooting just out of the keeper's reach. This finished off the Richland scoring giving them a victory final of 2-0. The shutout goes to Richland goalkeeper Holly Kline.
