Breast Cancer is a disease characterized by the growth of malignant
cells in both males and females; however females are more likely to get
this disease than men. Most breast cancers in female breast form shortly
before, during, or after menopause, with minority of the cases being diagnosed
after the age of fifty. Elderly are more likely to get breast cancer.
What are the main causes of Breast Cancer?
Causes of Breast Cancer are really undetermined. Researches have
come to a conclusion that both environmental and genetic factors are involved.
A family History of Breast Cancer increases the risk of getting it. Long-lasting
exposure to the hormone estrogens; as when menstruation starts before the
age of twelve and continues beyond the age of fifty, favours a development
of cancer, and women who have experienced benign tumours are likely to
develop Breast Cancer. Lack of exercise, alcohol consumption and previous
medical treatments involving chest irradiation are ones of many causes
of it.
What are the main symptoms of Breast Cancer?
A most common symptom of Breast Cancer would be of an abnormal lump
or swelling in the breast, which may appear beside the breast or under
the arm. Unexplained breast pain, abnormal discharge, changes in breast
texture, or changes in skin, are some many more common symptoms. The best
thing to do is to have it checked out by a doctor.
What can we do to prevent getting Breast Cancer?
Breast Cancer cannot be prevented. However, through early detection,
this may reduce the developing of Breast Cancer. It is best to have a monthly
breast self-examination for women over the age of twenty. A breast exam
by a health care professional every three years for women twenty to thirty
nine years old, and a yearly mammogram for all women forty and up. Women
at high risk of developing Breast Cancer may reduce their risk from taking
tamoxifin cells in the mammory glands. Breast Cancer can happen to anyone.
What should you do when you discover that you have Breast Cancer?
Necessary treatments would include surgery, radiation, or chemography.
Biological treatment is also an option.
