Now that the weather is finally cooperating (hopefully), the Randolph Golf Team is ready to swing into action. We are looking forward to working with all the fine young people who comprise our golf team. We had an incredible number of students try out for the team, and we have kept 27 golfers. This is obviously a very large squad and because of the nature of the sport, this presents many logistical problems. It would be impossible to take this many golfers to the course on a rotating basis, let alone on a daily basis. We have shared our thoughts with the team, letting them know that there will be many days when they will have to play on their own. Also, even with the introduction of an official Junior Varsity Team, the basic problem of tee times at Flanders is still limited. The Varsity Team has to receive the bulk of the playing time. The Junior Varsity does have a 10 match schedule - several other schools are also trying to fit us into their schedule - and they will have some practice time on their own, but it it is very important for these players to remember that there may be lengthy periods of inactivity with the team. The easy solution would be to cut the squad's numbers. However, the coaches feel that the association with the high school team could be a great learning experience for many of the players. We think that the potential benefits outweigh the potential negative implications. We hope the parents and players realize that we would love to have a course where we could play everyone on a daily basis. The coaching staff will work diligently to try to make the year an enjoyable and productive year for the team.
