Most full-time automobile mechanics earn between $25,000 and $45,000 a year, with an average somewhere between $30,000 and $40,000 a year. However, highly skilled mechanics, shop forepersons and managers can earn much more—up to $100,000 a year.

To become a certified mechanic, a three to five-year apprenticeship is required in all Canadian provinces except Quebec. Apprenticeships combine on-the-job training with approximately two months of vocational training in automotive mechanics at a recognized school each year.
