My Favourite Song
by: Meagan Bremner
My all time favourite song is Faget by the best
band in the world, Korn. I know the title of the song may sound discriminating
and not quite proper for a school essay, but it’s the content of the song
which makes it interesting.
This song is about something very sad that many
teenagers go through these days. In this song the artist is not being discriminative
at all.
During high school and throughout his life the
lead singer of Korn, Jon Davis was made fun of. When he was younger he
was molested by a father figure and never fully recovered. His only escape
from the world was in his bagpipe playing. Other kids constantly mocked
him, because he loved playing his bagpipes and was also shy and quiet.
He never let himself get close to anyone. He was too afraid to get hurt,
and was terrified of the world.
In this song he talks about the kinds of things
he went through because of his classmates. He felt as if he wasn't worth
anything. He also says that even though he was hurt and angry at the time,
he got over it. He talks about how negative energy attracts negative energy,
and that what goes around comes around.
He tries to give kids who are in the same position
as he was some hope. He says that it's not the end of the world and they'll
move on.I think that its really sad what some kids go through in school.
It's all a matter of respect. The people who are the tormentors have no
respect or morals for that matter. Just because someone is a little overweight,
poor or quiet doesn't mean that they deserve to be tormented. It should
be what's inside a person that counts, not their hair or clothes. People
should be judged by their intellect and attitudes because we're all humans
and deserve to be treated equally.
In the lyrics to this song Jon stands up for
himself against his tormentors, by saying things like "I'm just a pretty
boy, whatever you call it, you wouldn't know a real man if you saw it.
It keeps going on day after day son, you Faget get off I don't want none.
I'm sick and tired of people treating me this way everyday, well right
now I got something to say. To all those people that think I'm strange,
that I should be outta here looked up in a cage. You got this pretty boy
feeling like I'm enslaved. To all the people who never appreciated me you
can…………………." and then he goes on to say what he thinks that these people
deserve.
I'm not saying that retaliation is the best way
of doing things, but these kids who are made fun of should find a way to
stand up for themselves, instead of putting up with this everyday.
All I'm saying is that there is absolutely no
reason for these kids to let others bother them. You’re the bigger person
and should know it. Anybody who makes fun of someone else is insecure.
My advice to anyone in this kind of situation is to suck it up and ignore.
The inside is what counts, and like Jon says what goes around comes around.
