　 S.6 A-LEVEL CHEMISTRY PROJECT

Objectives

To train the students to acquire the ability of collecting information from various sources.
To train the students to know how to select and extract relevant material from a vast sources of information.
To train the students the skill of organizing and presenting information in a logical, hierarchical and impressive way.
To encourage the students to get acquainted with the use of audio-visual equipment and information technologies.
To serve as one of the ways to assess the students abilities.

Requirements

Each student has to select a topic in the present A-level Chemistry syllabus.
He/She has to collect information from various sources such as books, journals, magazines, Computer CD-ROMs, and Internet etc.
Student's original writing and personal opinion must be included.
He/She is then required to present his/her script in front of other classmates and teachers. The presentation may take the form of lecture supported with audio-visual equipment. Length of presentation should be 10-15 minutes.
A copy of the script, either in hard or soft copy, should be submitted to the teacher.

Schedule

14^th Sept.,1999		Announcement of the project work.
14^th-30^th Sept.,1999		Students decide on the topics that they are going to choose.
30^th Sept.,1999		Students submit topics selected with brief content to their teachers.
8^th Oct.,1999		Teachers approve or turn down the topics selected by the students.
8^th Oct.,1999		Students with selection being turned down re-consider their selection.
26^th Oct.,1999		All topic selection finalized.
26^th Oct.- 10^th Dec.,1999		Students collect information and draft all details, which they plan to present. They should also decide on the method of presentation. They should consult their teachers from time to time
10^th Dec.,1999		Students submit detail plans.
16^th Dec.,199		Teachers approve detail plans.
16^th Dec.,1999- 9^th Apr.,2000		Students prepare their presentation material.
3^rd Apr.,2000		Students submit lists of equipment needed for the presentation.
10^th-14^th Apr.,2000		Presentation
18^th Apr.,2000		Deadline of submitting copies of scripts.
