| Why Join a Sorority? |
| The decision to join a sorority is a difficult one, because it will be a LIFETIME committment. Sororities offer an unique bond between diverse groups of women. Sororities promote scholastic achievement and will provide valuable opportunities for leadership positions. In addition, sororities create a system of networking that will benefit you long after you have completed your collegiate career. There are four historically black Greek-lettered sororities that are members of a governing body called the National Pan-Hellenic Council(NPHC). Sigma Gamma Rho encourages all ladies to research and become familiar with all the sororities before making the decision to join any organization. Membership Requirements: Candidates must have completed at least 12 credit hours at UAB, be a full-time student, and maintain a 2.5 GPA . Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is interested in women who possess those qualities to which uplifts herself as well as the community. A Sigma woman possesses the strength and ability to excel above and beyond mediocre ideals, in order to enhance the finer woman that is within us all. The exceptional candidate for Sigma Gamma Rho possesses high standards of moral, high scholastic ability, and a well-rounded personality . Sigma Gamma Rho is dedicated to the improvement of the quality of our lives and the society in which we live. Sorority membership is open to quality women of any race/nationality who share its principles and has a strong desire to move herself, others and youth in a positive way! |
