| Xi Mu Chapter Herstory
The Xi Mu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority began with the induction of the Four Beauties of Blue on November 5, 1995. The four bluetiful sorors were Cindy "Halo" Gilyard, Catina "Deuce" Passmore, Griena "Professor" Knight, and Latisha "?" McWilliams. Sorors Gilyard, Passmore, and McWilliams were undergraduate students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Soror Knight was in graduate school at UAB. The idea to start a chapter at UAB began with Soror Toni Herron and Soror Cheryl Edwards. Both sorors became members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority at the Zeta Chi Chapter at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa in 1993. They had a dream to bring Sigma Gamma Rho back to Birmingham. Through their dedication and efforts, The Xi Mu Chapter received its charter from Regional Syntaktes Ann Broughton on January 21, 1996. On this day, the vision came to past and UAB has never been the same again. Since then the chapter has grown and still continues to blossom. |
