        Turbo Pascal's Treditor3D, Version 1.0, Revision A.
     Tegucigalpa, Honduras Central America. 23-October-2000.
****************************************************************************

Hi Tr fans, after several long hard days & nights coding, eating just
pizza & coke; finally TReditor3D is done.
You don't have any idea how difficult it was for me to code this.It was very hard to
design the program & then code it;I'm so tired, I want to sleep a whole week,
but the effort was well worth it, the program is great!
I like it so much & I hope that you'll like it too.
A lot of Thanks to my very good friend Bart for keeping me focused in this
TReditor version.

In a few weeks, EIDOS will release the official TombRaider editor, which
will only work for TR4/TR5, so I think I'll have a corner on the
TR1,TR2,TR3 market :-). My program will survive because it will be used by
Tr fans that prefer the TR1,TR2 & TR3 games.
I don't have any plans to abandon the project ...

1.- FOR EARLIER USERS
================
If you're an earlier 2d Treditor user, then you'll understand immediately how
to use this version.
TReditor3d has a totally new interface; but you'll recognize most controls,
Editing is in full 3D, but the technique's the same as the 2d version,
You'll add Rooms, select the availible shapes, click on the sectors to place the
floors and ceiling shapes, put portals attribs and portals views to chain together
the rooms, etc.

There are some changes in this version over the last one:

- TRE files from 2d version will not open.

- Single Walls for side conected rooms are possible now, look at the examples
included to see how the correct way of putting in side portals.

- TR3 room above/below rule is automatic handled from the editor, and for keep
that all TRE files can compile for all version without changes, this rule
is used for TR1/TR2 levels too.

- Now when the rooms are created, you specify the Y position and the Room
Height, instead of the Y floor and Ceiling position; this way you can move the
  whole room up and down.

- !Open the Base file! ... Before building the
level, this is -necesary- to render the room in textured mode.

- The keyboard/mouse use was changed, so check the keys Guide to see the new
layout.Truco/trick: use "wireframe mode" for quick & smooth "pan, zoom & rotate"

- "Lighting" has been canceled in this version, use Rview 3.00 and above
  to handle this work instead.

- The Default Lara's light intensity at the room control was discarded,
the program will use the same as the default ambient room light.

2.- FOR NEWBIES
===============
If this is the first time that you've used Tpascal's Treditor, then
let me give you a quick overview & guidelines.

1.- Treditor is a Basic Unofficial Level Builder for TR1, TR2 and TR3 levels,
Tr1 gold version (*.TUB) is also supported, Tr2 Gold version is not
supported, TR4 will be supported in the future.

2.- This program WILL ONLY BUILD NEW BASIC LEVELS, it can't edit the
    originals levels from the CD.

3.- With Treditor, you build all the rooms of the level. You'll specify if it's:
indoor or outdoor, underwater, has quicksand or has a "sky"...
After using Treditor you will have a PLAYABLE EMPTY LEVEL, no enemies, no
ornaments, no traps, no switches; just a whole empty level for Lara
    to explore.

4.- Next, you'll want to use use the RVIEW program to place better
textures & lights. You can export the rooms to a .DXF file format
to retouch the room's geometry with a professional CAD program.

5.- After you have the empty room with textures and lights, use the
TRITEM3D program from Roy Goldbold to POPULATE the empty room.
Add the: enemies, doors, switches, commands, ornaments
and the puzzles with TRitem.exe. Get it at:

    http://home.earthlink.net/~asasoft/

7.- To play the new levels, you'll need a patched TombRaider game that will run
the levels from hard disk instead of from the CD-ROM
Then you'll need to rename your custom levels with names from originals levels
    like level1.phd, Wall.tr2, Jungle.tr2 or Egypt.tub.
You can get the patches for all Tomb Raider game versions at:

    en espaniol,

8.- This readme file it is not a manual for the TReditor program.Except for the
techniques for setting the Portals "attributes & views", all of the
controls for this 3d version are fairly obvious. As obvious as any game
level building program. For the Portals attribs & views, you really need an
explanation. You'll need to contact the crew at the JHN forum,

    http://216.47.133.65/1540723/main.html

    or email me at cyber_pascal@yahoo.com.

3.- INSTALLATION
=================
Just copy all files from the package to any folder, and be sure that all
files are read/write flag attribute set.
If you get a "file acces denied" error when you run the program,it's almost
certain that some files are "read only" flag set.Right click on the file &
in "properties" , uncheck the "read only" box to remove this flag.

4.- RUN THE EXAMPLES
=====================

Exampl1.tre is for the TR3 version.

- Run TReditor3d
- Choose File, Open, select exampl1.tre.
- Choose File, Build Level.
- At the field Base'file name browse the path where you have the original
  file office.tr2.
- At the field Level's file name put the path where you have your jungle.tr2 in
  your hard disk.
- After you build the level, play the game using your patched version.

Exampl2.tr2 must be compiled with Xian.tr2 from Tomb Raider 2 version.

5.- Quick introduction.
=======================
Like i said, this is not a TReditor manual, but I'll give you a quick
introduction to program usage.

- TReditor3d needs a Base file to build the new level, you must choose a
original level from the CD. Press CTRL+O to open the Base file.
TReditor will use for your new level build, the textures from
this Base File. This Base File will also supply the items, enemies,
weapons,pick-ups & static meshes. The TRitem program will allow you
to place only the enemies, ornaments and traps that are included in
the level that you use for a "base".
So, if you want to build a new level with severals Trex, use the
"Lost valley" level in TombRaider,"Wall"(TR2) or "Crash"(TR3), etc.

- After the base level is opened;start adding new rooms. In each room,
you'll select from availible shapes & click over the sectors to place
those shapes at the floor(click)or at the ceiling(ctrl+click).
Pressing the cursor button up or down will adjust the height of the
shape & sector that is currently selected.
Note that using the "zero height" shape & the height selector at 1
is used for "re-setting" the height sector to the default floor height
of the room. If the height selector is OVER 1, then the "zero height"
shape is used to put the sector at the default Ceiling Height of the
  room.

- You can display a neighboring room, using the neighbor control. This neighbor
will be rendered at the same time as your current room, but only the
  current room can be edited.
Click over the neighbor room for make it the "current room" ...

- Use the option "send to front/back/left/right/up/down" option in the menu
to move the current room to: the front/back/left/right/up/down of the
  current neighbor.
*This ia the easy way to set the "overlap" of the (adjoining room's)
geometry, so that portals(doors) can be easily placed*

- Use the portals Attrib on a sector to allow Lara to move into other rooms
when she steps on that sector tile.Used as a "doorway" or sometimes,
when 2 large rooms are joined together, hence, a wide "doorway"

Use the Side room attrib to: allow Lara to move into any adjoining neighbor
rooms that are at...front, back left or right locations.

Use Room Above to: make Lara climb or jump into a Room above her

Use Room Below to allow Lara to move into a Room that is Below her
when she steps on that floor sector, dives into that pool or falls
  off of that ledge...

- You'll need to put a portal View at the same sector tile(or tiles) where you
put a portal attrib. the portal view must cover the entrance to the next room.
This allows Lara to "see" into this room.

6.- SOME NOTES
===============

- The program takes some time to open a Base file, because it needs to
search the most common texture sizes, sort the textures, load the textures
to the openGL buffers and build the texture panel sheet for the level.

- If the Base is not opened when you build the level, TReditor will open the
base & do the above work;then build the level, of course, this'll take
longer than simply first opening the Base file before you start building...

- If you Build the level with the base already opened, then the build procces
  take just few seconds.

- When you open a base file, this base file name will overwrite the previous
base file name specified in the build dialog.

- When you Open a .TRE that has already specified the base file name, TReditor
will open the base file automaticly & it'll seem that it takes a longer for
the program to start(it's loading the texture info...)

- When you Open a TRe with no base file name specified or if the base file
name isn't found, then TReditor will open quickly without any textures loaded.

- Sometimes when you're building a level, you may get the error
"invalid floating point" operation. This is a minor problem with openGL
& Borland tools; just ingnore it & select "build" the level again.

- When you're selecting the textures in the texture panel, do not click over
the textures, just put the mouse pointer over the texture and press the keys
"1", "2", "3" or "4" to get the textures for the floor. floor-wall, ceiling
  and ceiling-wall.

- Do the same to get the textures from a sector; don't click the sector, just place
the mouse pointer over the sector & press SPACEBAR.

- I was so tired that.. I haven't finished the texture update(where you can change the
texture number manually or when you get the textures from a sector, but
that's not a problem; you can still use that texture number.

- The portals Views can be seen only at their 3D normals, I mean, the back, left
or right portal views can be only "seen" when you rotate the room and the
portal is facing to the camera(as if you were in THAT room looking outward
  towards these faces...)
remember, you're in a game world now;you're building it.
think like: how will Lara view and move though these rooms!?

7.- OPENGL NOTES
===================
- I am including the software opengl drivers, please try this first without them.
If you experience problems, then use these drivers.

- I admit that the Zoom/Pan is slow,I recommend switching to wireframe
mode when you zoom/pan the room.

- All the unnecessary faces seen at the render window may not be present
  after the rooms are build.

------------------*--------------*------------*--------------*-----

This is the revision A, meaning that it's not fully tested for all posibilities,
S, it can have bugs. please post at the forum any bugs that you found.

I like this program a lot;I'm proud of it & I'm dying to start
building the "Fenician Temple II", this way ,I can test this editor even better.
Please share your experiences & let me now if you have any problems. If
you have questions, I'd be glad to help you.
