I interviewed a 6 year old that is currently in accelerated Kindergarten. She loved the pictures that were provided in the book. She liked seeing all the children that were in the photographs. During the sections about the history of the flag, I noticed that her attention would begin to wonder, but if I asked a question she would focus again. She was able to read most of the words, but it was challenging at times for her to decode those words. Some concepts that are presented in the book are abstract, and will be challenging for a child of this age to understand. However, with American Patroitism at the current level, she is more familiar with terms that are usually associate with history of America. Terms such as freedom, pride are familiar to her and made it easy to explain other related concepts. |
