PANDAS
I have always loved the Panda Bear. In the summer of 1999, I got my first and only tattoo, and you guessed it...it was of a Panda ...on my right ankle. I think they are an amazing animal but unfortunatley they are very close to extinction. I hope you enjoy learning a bit about them and enjoy their beauty as much as I do.
Chinese books, written more than 3000 years ago, talk of the Giant Panda. It was believed to be endowed with mystical powers, which allowed it to ward off natural disasters and evil spirits. Today, the Panda is one of the most revered animals in the world.
The Giant Panda is near-sighted, but has a highly developed sense of hearing. Its diet consists of bamboo shoots, plant matter and small mammals. It is active from twilight to dawn.
Pandas do not live in families. They live alone, except mothers with cubs. Babies stay with their mothers for two or three years then they wander off on their own.

Studying Giant Pandas in the wild isn't easy because it is hard to find them. First, the dense forest hides them well, but more important, there are so few of them. It is estimated that no more than 1,000 Giant Pandas exist in the wild. They are one of the most endagered species on the earth.
