| INDUCTION NATURAL METHODS Natural induction is an intervention in birth. Like all interventions, they carry risks. You should encourage your clients to wait until their due date at a minimum before trying any natural induction, unless medical reasons indicate that birth should be induced, and they want to avoid Pitocin. All natural induction techniques should be discussed with their HCP. Time can be the best natural method to induce. Baby will come when they are ready. If it is forced the baby may not be fully developed. Careful consideration should be taken before attempting any of these. Advise your clients to weigh the risks vs benefits, and consider not doing this if the only reason is "I am tired of being pregnant." - Natural Labor Induction - Doula Notes Non-Pharmaceutical Induction Failure to Progress Involves Accupressure NOTE: It is probably obvious that there are points included in this pamphlet that could be used to aid the induction of labour. I do not want to cover the specifics of these. If an induction is necessary I recommend an individual assessment by a qualified practitioner. If this is not possible I would be happy to discuss some points with your Midwife or Doctor. - Debra Betts, Acupuncturist CASTOR OIL Castor oil, bath and/or enema for cervical priming and induction of labour (Cochrane Review) MEDICAL OXYTOCIN (PITOCIN) Basic Information Risk of Cesarean Delivery With Elective Induction of Labor at Term in Nulliparous Women You should Know that pitocin puts you at a higher risk for a c-section among other things "Update on Obstetric Drugs and Procedures: Their Effects on Maternal and Infant Outcome," Birth Gazette 13:1, 1996 an excerpt form a longer article The situation is somewhat analogous to holding an infant under the surface of the water, allowing the infant to come to the surface to gasp for air but not to breathe. All About Breech Babies This site was developed so that families expecting a breech baby have a place to come to get all the information available to them regarding the dynamics of birthing breech.
