| Species The different Species of the NightWorld, with a few other odds and ends mixed in. Someone tell me if I got all the flowers right? I have the feeling I didn't. Vampires The on thing that vampires are really sensitive to are wood. Sunlight dulls their powers, fire... Well, fire will kill most things, but wood poisons them. There are two types of vampires, the Made Vampires, and the Lamia. Made Vampires start out human, but are made a vampire. They can't have children or grow old, and the person being made a vampire has to be younger then twenty, or their body just burns out. Lamia are born vampires. They can grow old if they choose and have children, or they can, like made vampires, live forever. Holy items, garlic, and running water don't do squat. The vampires have a good deal of power in the Nightworld, and the primary Lamia family is the Redferns, lead by Hunter Redfern. Hunter isn't a very nice guy. The Lamia tend to be named after things in nature; plants, anymals, stones. The vampire's symbol is a black rose Shapeshifters Shifters are all born with one animal that they can change into, except for the royal house, Drache, which gets to choose what animal they would like to be. Shifters were originally ruled by the dragons, the ultimate shifters because they could take on any shape of any animal or human. However, the witches put the dragons into a magical sleep, and that's where they've stayed... Er, most of them. Shifters are highly sensitive to silver, and they have the tendancy to wear clothing made out of the skins pf their dead because it's easier to shift in. Shifter's symbol is black fox glove. Witches The witches, like the vampires, play a bit role in the NightWorld Council. The first Lamia, Maya, was sisters with a powerful witch named Hellwise. Hellwise was the first of the Harmans, the major witch family. The witches are considered the 'most human' of the NightWorlders, and are, like shifters are yo silver and like vampires are to wood, sensitive to iron. The witches have their own little group of 'rulers', including Aradia the Maiden, Cybele the Mother, and Grandma Harman, the Crone. A lot of the witches seem to be names after the gods and goddesses of different pantheons. The witches' symbol is a black Dalia. Werewolves Veiwed as the idiots of the NightWorld, though this is not always true. They are sensitive to silver, like shifters are, even though there is a difference between shifters and 'wolves, even a wolf shifter and a 'wolf. 'Wolves need to feed, like vampires, but they're nowhere near as neat, as they need to feed mostly on the inards. Some vampires, witches, and shifters find it poor form to hang around with 'wolves. In one of the books, they are described not as humans that are sometimes wolves, but as wolves that are sometimes human. They also use the black foxglove. Humans, Old Souls, and Vampire Hunters Humans, for the most part, are completly, utterly, and in all other ways, oblivious. There are the ocasional exceptions, for example, a wakened Old Soul who was one of the members of the original Circle Daybreak. Old Souls are people, usually humans or witches, who have lived many, many, many lives. Vampires cannot be reborn, so they're usually not Old Souls, and a wakened Old Soul is someone who remembers all of these lives, or at least some of them. The other exception is Vampire Hunters, usually human. They are exactly what the name implies, though the take out the odd witch, shifter, or 'wolf as well. Most refuse to admit that some NightWorlders are people too. |
