Physics Scavenger Hunt Rules

             The RULES

1. You must work in groups of three students.  If the other two in your group report that you are not doing your share of the project, you will be assigned an alternative project consisting of a 10-15 page research paper on a topic of the teacher's selection.  I do not like to grade research papers!

2. You may only bring items between 2:45 and 3:05 p.m. (unless your teacher instructs otherwise).  Items will not be accepted between the 7:15 bell and the end of the last daily class.

3.  Your group may submit up to 4 items per day.  If an item is not accepted, it may not be resubmitted until the following day.  All members of a group are not required to be present when an item is submitted.

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE GROUP TO KEEP TRACK OF THE ITEMS YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN CREDIT FOR.  I WILL NOT GIVE YOU THIS INFORMATION AGAIN.

4. Do not ask if an item is correct before presenting it.  Upon presentation, you will be told whether an item is acceptable Items may be judged unacceptable on the following criteria:

                    (a) does not fulfill requirements of item number description;
                    (b) improper format, improper container,  or incomplete (see below);
                    (c) your group has already completed the item number for which it was submitted.

You will not be told why your submission is not accepted.  If you have done your part, only "a" from the list above should occur, and it is up to you to figure out the problem.

5.  Items must be turned in with a 4 x 6 lined index card.  On the note card, the following information should be neatly written:

                    Front: (lined side)                                       Back: (unlined)

Name of team member                            Item Number
submitting card
--------------------------------------------------------------
Identify or describe the item on one to three lines.

Skip a line, then write out any math calculations that are applicable.

Skip a line and provide any additional information required for that item number.

      Group Number
      Class Period
      Date Submitted
      Name of each member in group.

6.  Some entries may be used for more than one item number.  When turning in one item to represent several item numbers, turn in a single item and complete a note card for each item number it is being used to represent.

7.  Any liquid or potentially messy item that is turned in must be in a closed, sealed container that does not leak.  Containers will not be returned.  If such items are turned in without a proper container, no credit will be given and you will be responsible for cleaning any mess that results.

8.  Items submitted and accepted will not be returned.

9.  You may use balances and other necessary equipment in the lab before and after school after asking permission.

10.  You may look for these items anywhere except on school property or on another school campus.  You may not ask for or accept any items which originated on any school or university campus.  Any items which appear to have been so obtained will not be accepted.  You must be able and willing to explain where an item was obtained.

11.  You may ask assistance from anyone who is not and has never been a science teacher.  Your textbook should be a key resource.

12.  It is to your disadvantage to help other teams.  I will not penalize you for doing so, but the grading scheme works against it.

13.  The last opportunity to submit items will be after school on Friday, April 11th.  Do not wait until the last minute!
